A hidden escape in Ibiza: Atzaro

This hotel claims to immerse you in a stay that stimulates and soothes the senses, where luxury meets authenticity, where nature heals, and it certainly doesn’t disappoint.

Ibiza often gets a bad rap as purely a party destination (which it absolutely is, in certain areas), but venture beyond the flashing lights and DJ booths and you’ll find rolling hills, farmland, and hidden beaches. One of the island’s best-kept secrets? Atzaró Agroturismo, a 300-year-old finca that brings together all of the above, and much more.

I discovered Atzaró Agroturismo while travelling around the island for my yearly Ibiza hotel guide for The Independent (a major perk of my old job), and it quickly became one of my favourite hotels I’ve ever been lucky enough to stay in. Now, there’s rarely a time I return to Ibiza without visiting, even if just for lunch, dinner, or the day. Yes, you can purchase a day pass if you’re staying elsewhere, and it’s well worth it, because you’ll quickly see that every now-trending element of wellness tourism is simply part of the way Atzaró Agroturismo operates, not a marketing claim.

Take the farm-to-fork food concept, for example. Sitting on 13 hectares of land, the 24-room luxury hotel was originally a working farm, and still is today, meaning every fruit and vegetable you eat on-site is grown within metres of your plate.

Alongside rows of orange trees, herbs and botanicals, you’ll also find a garden packed with modern wellness touches: a 43-metre fresh-water pool, an ice bath (one of the coldest I’ve ever experienced), a jacuzzi, and no shortage of daybeds. Around the outskirts are treatment rooms (using oils infused with herbs grown on-site, of course), a gym, saunas, and a studio for daily fitness classes. Plus, you may spot the odd peacock wandering the grounds — he caught me off guard on my first visit too.

As for the rooms, they’re rustic and true to authentic Ibizan style while still steeped in luxury. Expect every modern necessity — TV, toiletries, Wi-Fi — housed in a naturally designed space: wooden beams, fireplaces, cotton upholstery; you get the gist. Plus, many come with their own pools and terraces, meaning you truly never have to leave if you don’t want to.

Essentially, Atzaró Agroturismo proves that nature, community, and a deep understanding of the land should be seamlessly woven into a luxurious lifestyle. You’ll eat incredibly well, sleep exceptionally deeply, and, if you’re anything like me, feel more relaxed than you knew was even possible. And that hidden beach I promised? The group also owns a beach club just a 15-minute drive away. I told you you’d find everything here — even a night on the dance floor isn’t too far away.
